A vacation doesn’t end when the sun goes down. In fact, a growing trend known as “noctourism” is encouraging travelers to explore destinations after dark. Rooted in the idea that nighttime opens up a whole new world of sensory experiences, noctourism is all about stargazing, moonlit walks, evening markets, and outdoor adventures that highlight a destination’s natural beauty and culture. Here in Martin County, the nights are just as memorable as the days. From breezy waterfront sails to celestial discoveries overhead, here are five fun ways to embrace the night during your next visit to our little slice of paradise!

1. Explore Our Night Markets and Street Festivals
For those who love community events, Martin County’s night markets and festivals offer a lively way to spend a night outdoors. Stroll through rows of local vendors, taste delicious eats, shop handcrafted goods, and listen to live music under the stars. These night markets capture the spirit of noctourism by connecting people with place in vibrant, outdoor settings. For example, every Thursday night, downtown Jensen Beach comes alive during Jammin’ Jensen. The streets fill with live music, local artists, food vendors, and a friendly crowd wandering under twinkling lights. Other examples include the First Friday Art Walks in the Creek District (which take place on the first Friday of each month) and the Olive Branch Night Market every Friday night from 4pm to 7pm at the Jensen Beach Campus. Make sure to keep an eye on our Events page to stay in-the-know!
2. Embark on an Enchanting Sunset Sail or Evening Cruise
Few experiences capture the magic of Martin County quite like watching the sun set from the water. As daylight fades and the sky turns shades of pink, orange, and violet, our calm waterways become the perfect stage for an unforgettable evening. Visitors have a wide range of options to choose from depending on their style. Climb aboard a classic sailboat with Treasure Coast Sailing Adventures for a laid-back excursion that feels timeless. Drift along on a scenic pontoon ride with Treasure Coast River Cruises, where you’ll enjoy smooth waters and front-row seats to the golden hour glow. Local outfitters like Onward & Upward and Sail La Vie also specialize in private charters—ideal for couples seeking romance, families making memories, or small groups looking for a customized experience. Whether you’re raising a glass to celebrate a special occasion or simply soaking in the beauty of the moment, a sunset cruise is the ultimate noctourism adventure on Florida’s Treasure Coast.
3. Spend an Evening Stargazing from Uncrowded Beaches
Martin County’s beaches aren’t just a daytime attraction. They’re open 24/7 with free parking, which makes them one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to experience noctourism! After sunset, the shoreline transforms into a peaceful escape, where the rhythmic crash of the waves and the cool ocean breeze set the stage for unforgettable evenings. Visitors can take a moonlit stroll along the sand, gather with friends around a permitted bonfire , or simply spread out a blanket and gaze upward as the night sky comes alive. Thanks to low light pollution compared to larger cities, it’s often possible to spot countless constellations, shooting stars, and even stretches of the Milky Way on clear nights. Depending on timing, you may even catch a rocket launch! The experience can be as simple as a romantic walk hand-in-hand or as adventurous as bringing along a telescope for some DIY astronomy.
4. Register for an Explore Natural Martin Moon Observation Night
If you’re seeking a more structured stargazing experience, join Explore Natural Martin and the Treasure Coast Astronomical Society for an upcoming Moon Observation Night! This free outdoor program enables groups of visitors to view the moon up close through high-powered telescopes and learn about its features from local astronomy experts. The program typically runs from 8:00pm to 9:30 pm at Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach, but it does require reservations (spots fill quickly). Guests should wear weather-appropriate clothing, bring water and bug spray, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. This event is part of our award-winning ecotourism program, which offers a variety of free evening and daytime eco-programs throughout the year (like specially permitted nighttime sea turtle walks), so be sure to check the Eventbrite page regularly for updated schedules.
